Liverpool are understood to have launched a £14.9m bid for Lyon defender Emanuel Mammana as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of a crucial campaign for the Reds.
The Sport Review report that the Reds are preparing to offer the centre-back a five-year contract at Anfield – worth £2.8m a year and £54k-per week – however, Mammana is awaiting permission from Lyon to discuss personal terms with Liverpool.
The 21-year-old is understood to want the two clubs to reach an agreement before proceeding with the negotiations on his personal terms.
Mammana made 17 Ligue 1 appearances – scoring one goal – for Lyon last season in his debut campaign in France, following his move from Argentinian side River Plate.
The defender has three international caps to his name following his senior debut in June 2014, and is currently on holiday in his homeland ahead of the start of a new season, which could be in the Premier League if the reports are accurate.
With defence a key area the Reds are looking to address this summer – after conceding the most goals in the Premier League’s top four last season – the 21-year-old could be an option for Klopp as he is seemingly a ball-playing centre-back which the German boss looks for in his players.
